When my elderly in-laws got their shots, the aides asked us to take pictures and post them on social media because the anti-vaccine forces on Facebook and Twitter are so loud. Apparently part of the anti-vaxx narrative is that "nobody is really willing to get the shots." So they wanted us to brag about getting them, basically. Some of what you're seeing may be people trying to fulfill that request.

I can’t argue with that motive.

A fair point. I guess it depends on what sort of folks follow you on social media. If it’s people like me you don’t have to sweat us not wanting to get jabbed.

Apparently the vaccine-hesitant are a much bigger group than I personally would have guessed. I can say that when I dutifully put a picture of my in-laws getting their shots on my (very small, restricted to a family and few friends) Facebook page, a couple cousins came out of the woodwork and confessed their anxieties. The whole thing surprised me. So maybe it was a good idea?

I think the whole column is a backhanded age-brag, showing off your relative youth (relative to your relatives). Don't you worry. God villing, you'll be 65 soon enough so show a little humility, kid.
