A Loesser/Wodehouse post deserves very high honors in my book so I will not dwell on the very limited definition of mediocrity you've settled for here. Surely, whether or not he was useful in the flow chart resulting in an excellent wicket, he was talented at the qualities that lead to success - personability, enthusiasm, ambition and the ability to feign status as a Groundhog are qualities that remain necessary, and rewarded, no matter your skill at wicketing.
