Charlie Peters, RIP
Russell Baker: "A great editor in an age that isn't producing great editors."
Two years ago I used this space to wish Charlie Peters, founder of The Washington Monthly, a happy 95th birthday. (That’s him above left, recognizable mainly from the raccoon eyebrows.) Today I had the less happy task of writing an obituary of Charlie for the New Republic because he passed away on Thanksgiving, just a few weeks shy of his 97th birthday. He was my mentor and friend and I will never forget him. You can read my piece here.
