Well, there's Bonnie Briar with tennis, but that's just over the border too. Family legend is that they wanted my dad to drop his pants to prove that he wasn't Jewish. He did not comply.
As for Wykagyl CC, don't forget all the times we sledded down the golf course hills in the winter... More thumbing your nose at their policy!
Inspired by this blog post, a friend and I drove up from Brooklyn on Sunday to visit Walters. By coincidence they were celebrating their 105th anniversary, and there was live music and balloons and tables laid for a hot-dog eating competition. A very special place. Thank you for writing about it and bringing it into our lives!
I worked in downtown New Rochelle in the mid 1980s. The locals introduced me to the twin seasonal culinary destinations: Walter’s across from Mamaroneck High School and a joint they called “Greasy Nicks” on Shore Road. I live in New Jersey now but might have to take a drive.

And you're 100% right about Walters!
Oh WALTER’S! I could cry just thinking how long it’s been since I got a grilled dog on a crispy buttered bun with extra mustard.🥺😢
