Met him in Telluride 2 yrs ago, I was in line for a free screening of 63Up the first night I got there... waited about two hours.
Realized if that was the only film I saw during the four day fest I’d be fine. Publicist from SF knew that 28UP was the most profound film experience I’d ever had and spied me in line and asked if I wanted to meet Michael Apted and brought him to me! We ended up chatting and he asked if I had tickets... I held up crossed fingers. He said if I didn’t get one I could come in and sit on his lap!!! (So nice to be flirted with by an almost 80 yr old charming British Man as a woman fretting about turning 60 the next month!)
After a Q & A later in the weekend (where it was evident he was ailing and I knew there’d be no 70Up), I watched him wandering about looking for a place to eat. I was seized with an uncharacteristic moment of shyness... Didn’t reapproach and reintroduce myself, deciding he might just want to be left alone.
Thanks, Tim. I saw my first Up film when I was pregnant with my first child and it made me think so deeply about what was ahead. Now I feel like those Up participants are like a college class whose reunions I actually look forward to. And I love Coal Miner's Daughter.
Come rain or come shine, baby.

I will now regret that till the day I die.
Thank you for your poignant tribute, Tim.
Beautiful, Tim.
Thanks, Mary Kay.
