Julie Su is President Joe Biden’s nominee for labor secretary. She is a strong nominee, which makes her unacceptable to Republicans. It also makes her potentially unacceptable to four Democrats and one independent. That’s the subject of my latest New Republic piece, which you can read here.
As I write, Su’s Senate confirmation hearing is just getting started. You can watch it here. At the moment, ranking member Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, is carrying on about Su being an “activist,” which is what Republicans call anyone who wants to enforce labor laws.
Update, 5 p.m.: Here’s my follow-up on how Su’s confirmation hearing went.
Role of New America alums on this appointment very interesting
