I'm Ashamed To Be A Man
The male leadership class's capitulation to Donald Trump leaves me contemplating a sex change.
Meet the richest little bitch in America.
I’m seriously considering a sex change this morning. I happen to be a boringly cisgender heterosexual, and I’m very happily married, but I’m not sure I can handle the embarrassment of being a man at a moment in history when America’s male leadership class is revealing itself to be, if you’ll pardon my application of a 20th-century slur, such unbelievable pussies. These supposed Alpha Males are all-atremble, like furry little woodland creatures, at what that mean man Donald Trump will do if they endorse Kamala Harris for president.
Just about the only people showing any balls in this, the most important election of our lifetimes, are the women: Nancy Pelosi, who was out front among prominent Democrats pressuring President Joe Biden to withdraw; Liz Cheney, who is out front among prominent Republicans campaigning for Harris; and now Mariel Garza, who quit her job as editorials editor at the Los Angeles Times after the paper’s billionaire owner chickened out and decided not to endorse a presidential candidate (it would have been Harris). Today we learn that the Washington Post won’t endorse a presidential candidate at the direction of “management,” meaning publisher Will Lewis and the paper’s owner, Jeff Bezos, presumably out of fear that an angry President Trump might cancel Amazon’s government contracts (though don’t expect Lewis to spell that out when he issues an expected formal statement this afternoon). David Shipley, the Post’s editorial page editor, reportedly told colleagues he “owns” this decision, which I guess is his way of saying he won’t quit. Well of course he won’t quit. He’s a man.
You can read my roundup, for the New Republic, of these Masters of the Universe determined to go down in history as cowards, here. In the meantime, please pass the testosterone blockers, and please please please cast your ballot for Kamala Harris, if only because the boys have lost any capacity to lead.
I think this is the ONLY response to this truly appalling situation, Tim. Yikes. I posted a bunch of it on my Instagram account --of course with your byline! ...
This is really refreshing! Thanks for calling a spade a spade!!!
